Abstract

Citizen science consists of an opening to society's participation in the production of scientific knowledge, providing the inclusion of social actors from different sociodemographic segments in the scientific investigation process. This study aims to understand how citizen science can be configured as an inclusive instrument, considering the inequalities that exclude different social groups from the knowledge construction. Bibliographical research was carried out, supported by an indiciary paradigm, in order to establish relationships between the studied practices. The results showed the ways in which science can approach the public and how citizen science promotes greater social inclusion, considering the educational, instructive, occupational and democratic character of its objectives and projects. It was also found that this inclusion can take place mainly from scientific literacy and the participation of different segments of the population in citizen science projects.
